President Ruto has donated Ksh10 million to AFC Leopards for their 60th anniversary and has promised to support their transformation into a corporate entity and sports development.

FKF Premier League giants AFC Leopards have received a significant boost from President William Ruto who has made a generous Ksh10 million donation towards the club's 60th anniversary celebrations.

The announcement came during a special event where discussions around the club’s ambitious journey towards becoming a corporate entity and establishing its own training facility were highlighted.

President Ruto, in his address, commended AFC Leopards for their invaluable contribution to Kenyan football, emphasizing the club’s role in nurturing talent and contributing to the sport's development in the country.

"I am excited by the progress we are making in transforming sports into a mega industry, as part of our BETA agenda of expanding opportunities for the youth of Kenya. Monetising talents and commercializing the institutions responsible is a key cog in this wheel of transformation," President Ruto shared on X (Twitter).

During the event, President Ruto hosted club leaders and officials from select fan chapters at State House, Nairobi.

“We fully support these progressive plans, and invite other football clubs to follow suit by taking advantage of the transformative agenda my administration is rolling out through our Talanta Hela flagship initiative under the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports,” he added.

The President’s message underscored the historical achievements of AFC Leopards, reminiscing about the club’s founding in March 1964 and its journey to becoming one of the most successful football clubs in Kenya.

With 12 Kenya Premier League titles, 10 domestic Cup titles, and five CECAFA Club Championship titles under its belt, the club has been instrumental in the rise of Kenyan football on both the national and regional stages.

The meeting was graced by the presence of AFC Leopards patron Alexander Muteshi, Ingwe at 60 Committee chairman Elder Vincent Shimoli, National Executive Committee members, and the club’s secretariat.

The celebrations for the club’s 60th anniversary commenced on Tuesday 12 March, featuring a series of activities that reflect the club’s commitment to community engagement and social responsibility.

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja had earlier contributed Ksh2 million towards the anniversary, further supporting the club's initiatives.

Among the highlighted CSR activities, the AFC Leopards Ladies team visited Woma Care Centre in Kawangware, the Youth Team made a stop at Nile Road Special School, and the senior team spent time at Shangilia Mtoto Africa Children’s Home in Kibagare.

The main celebrations took place in Shauri Moyo, the home of founding father Mutoka, culminating in a memorable cake-cutting ceremony.

The festivities will continue with an Inter-branches football tournament and a highly anticipated friendly match against Spanish side AE Ramassa on March 24th at the Nyayo National Stadium.
