Adebayo Adeleye is yet to establish himself as Nigeria Super Eagles goalkeeper but is one of five goals named in the AFCON2023 provisional list.

Israel-based goalkeeper Adebayo Adeleye has sent a resounding message to other goalkeepers in the Super Eagles ahead of Nigeria’s quest to lift the AFCON2023.

Adeleye served a standout performance for Hapoel Jerusalem following a 1-1 draw against Maccabi Bnei Reine at the weekend.

The 23-year-old showed he is ready to stake a serious claim for the number one spot in Cote d’Ivoire with a commanding performance against the Bnei.

Hapoel came from behind to claim a credible and valuable away point, with Adeleye playing a pivotal role.

It may take a bit of work to integrate him, but Adebayo Adeleye has a lot of upside

He made four brilliant saves to deny their hosts, who took the lead thanks to an own goal from Noam Gil Malmud.

Karem Zoabi netted a decisive equaliser five minutes from time but it was Adeleye’s shot-stopping in between the sticks that was the difference maker.

"Great game yesterday against Maccabi Bnei," Adebayo posted after the game. "Top performance from the lads as we pick valuable point away from home," he added.

The game highlighted his defensive prowess which could prove invaluable for Jose Peseiro’s Super Eagles when the AFCON2023 kicks off in Ivory Coast next month.

Adeleye’s latest outing was a clear message to other goalkeepers named in Nigeria’s 40-man provisional squad for the AFCON.
