The experienced Kenyan international has revealed Harambee Stars’ ambitious target for the upcoming two games against Gabon and Seychelles.

Harambee Stars left-back Abud Omar has revealed that the national team targets to get at least four points in the upcoming two critical World Cup qualifying games against Gabon and Seychelles this month.

Omar was named in the final traveling squad that jetted out of the country on Wednesday morning for Gabon, where they will be facing the Panthers on Thursday at 7 PM East African Time.

The experienced Kenya Police left back has revealed that taking part in big friendly matches against nations like Qatar, Iran and Russia has given the side much needed confidence heading into the two games.

“As you have seen, we have taken part in big friendlies this year. I think the main aim is to qualify for the World Cup for the first time and I think we can do it,” Omar told Pulse Sports.

“We know that Gabon is a very difficult team because we are going to play at their ground. Seychelles are underdogs but we will not underestimate them.

“We are aiming for six points but if we do not achieve that, we should at least get six points.”

Omar has praised the mentality of the players as well as the coach and has promised that the side will leave no stone unturned in the quest to get a minimum of four points from the opening two games.

“I think we can because if you look at the coach’s mentality as well as the players, our aim is that, if worse goes to worse, we should get at least four points.

Meanwhile, the former Tusker, Cercle Brugge and Bandari left back has revealed his ambition for the upcoming two games amidst competition from Erick 'Marcelo' Otieno and Dennis Ng’ang’a.

“Getting called up is always a privilege,” Omar said. “I’ve been in the national team for almost 13 years so even when you get called up nowadays, there is an amazing feeling,” he added.

“As you know, I am a player that does not like to stay out for a long time. I have been playing regularly my entire life, always being in the first team. There is a lot of competition.

“If you look at the squad, there are three left backs. It is a competition, so we must go there, put our best foot forward and then leave it to the coach to make the final decision. Mine is just to train hard in order to impress him.”

Kenya has been placed in group F of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Burundi, Ivory Coast and The Gambia are the other teams in the group.

A good start for Harambee Stars will give them all the confidence they need to try and make history moving forward.
