Harambee Stars' 23-man traveling squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers will depart on Wednesday morning for Libreville ahead of crucial matches against Gabon and Seychelles.

Three players have been dropped by Harambee Stars head coach Engin Firat as he named his traveling squad that will leave the country early Wednesday morning for Gabon.

Moses Shummah, Geoffrey Onyango, and Eric Balecho, with the latter two who were in the Stars camp for the first time, have been released as the team prepares to travel to the Central African nation at 8 AM.

Shummah, in particular, was expected by many to be in the squad, having made an impressive mark by scoring Kenya's solitary goal in a thrilling 1-0 win over Pakistan during a Four Nations Tournament in Mauritius back in June, on his full debut.

However, coach Firat seems to have opted for other options as he shapes his team for the challenging qualifiers.

And in a bid to strengthen the defensive lineup, Zambia-based defender Dennis Ng’ang’a has been called up to replace Joseph Okumu, who will have to wait for a late fitness test.

Okumu recently picked up a knock while playing in Stade Reims’ French Ligue 1 match against the formidable Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

Sweden-based defender Eric Ouma has also traveled with the team but his availability for the qualifiers remains uncertain as he awaits assessment by the team’s medical staff.

Ouma sustained a knock in his last club match in Sweden, and his participation will depend on his fitness evaluation.

The arrival of all foreign-based players to the squad is a positive sign for Harambee Stars, as they prepare for their first competitive match since early 2022.

FIFA had slapped Kenya with an indefinite suspension following the disbandment of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) by former Sports Cabinet Secretary Amb. Amina Mohammed.

Harambee Stars will kick off their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign with an away clash against Gabon on Thursday.

Following their clash with Gabon, Harambee Stars will face Seychelles at Abidjan, Ivory Coast on Monday, marking another crucial fixture in their qualification journey.

Kenya has been drawn in Group F of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Côte d’Ivoire, Gabon, Gambia, Burundi, and Seychelles.
