Bayern Munich win their first league game after three consecutive draws.

Three goals in the first 20 minutes of the game rendered Wolfsburg's numerical advantage insufficient as Bayern Munich added one more later in the game to beat them 4-2.

The Bavarians travelled to Wolfsburg’s Volkswagen Arena as they looked to shake off a mediocre league form that had them draw their last three games. The defending champions came out firing early and earned themselves a cushion that proved useful later in the game.

Kingsley Coman fired Bayern ahead as early as the 9th minute before doubling the Bavarians' advantage five minutes later, in the 14th minute. Bayern were three up in another five-minute interval after a Thomas Muller strike.

Wolfsburg managed to pull one back in the 44th minute to head into the break with a glimmer of hope. The silver lining widened when Joshua Kimmich received his marching orders following a second yellow card, but Jamal Musiala extended Bayern's lead in the 74th minute. Wolfsburg made it 4-2 in the 81st minute, but they did not manage to add to the tally.

The win returns Bayern to the top of the Bundesliga after Union Berlin temporarily took the spot yesterday.

How it happened

Bayern had an early flurry of attacks and were immediately rewarded with a goal before the 10-minute mark. Kingsley Coman's long-range effort projected itself into the bottom right corner, much to the disbelief of Koen Casteels in goal for Wolfsburg. His second goal was much closer to the post, as he unleashed a first-time shot from inside the box after he was put through on goal by new signing Joao Cancelo.

Thomas Muller turned it into three with a beautifully headed goal, and Bayern looked like they were coasting to victory. The first curve ball was thrown in the easy game Bayern had up until this point when first-half substitute Jakub Kaminski got on the end of a delivery from Paulo Otavio to register Wolfsburg on the scoresheet. Bayern were then hampered when Kimmich pulled his opponent back from reaching the ball, prompting him to be sent for an early shower.

Wolfsburg could not capitalise on their advantage before Musiala weaved his way through Wolfsburg's defence to fire into the bottom right corner. Wolfsburg threatened a late drama when Mattias Svanberg pounced on a loose ball in the box to beat Yann Sommer in goal for Bayern. The home side thought they got the third from a Lukas Nmecha strike; however, VAR ruled the goal out for a foul in the build-up.

Mane still out as Blind makes league debut

Bayern Munich's marquee summer signing, Sadio Mane, is still out due to injury and was not involved in the game. The Senegalese inflamed his fibula and has missed eight games so far for the German giants. His return date is unknown.

Daley Blind terminated his contract with Ajax in December last year and joined Bayern on a free transfer, however, the Dutch defender was yet to feature in the league for the Bavarians since signing until today, when he came on for fellow January acquisition Joao Cancelo in the 78th minute.
