Nigeria's Super Eagles miss out on 2026 World Cup
The Super Eagles, one of the continent’s traditional powerhouses and a five-time African champion, will miss the tournament for the second successive edition after suffering a heartbreaking 4-3 penalty shootout defeat to DR Congo in the CAF playoff final in November 2025.
Despite boasting a squad rich in Premier League and European talent, including Victor Osimhen, Nigeria failed to secure automatic qualification from their group and could not overcome the Leopards in the decisive tie.
For a nation of such quality, and the undeniable tactical nous of head coach Eric Chelle, missing the World Cup is a massive disappointment on every level.
