The Commonwealth Games champion has sweet memories of Austria since it was the first place he ever run under 10 seconds.

Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala heads to the Josko Lauf Meet in Austria Saturday afternoon as he fine-tunes for the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary from August 19 to 27.

The event will start at 1:45 p.m. EAT and all the action can be followed live here. The Commonwealth Games champion has sweet memories of Austria since it was the first place he ever run under 10 seconds.

In a post on his Twitter page, Omanyala said: “Race day!!! Happy to be back in Andorf Austria where I ran my first sub-10s in 2021. 9.96 and 9.86. The hospitality here has been awesome. Hope to give them something special that they will look back to when I leave here.

His great threat at the event will be Great Britain’s Eugene Amo-Dadzie who is the only other athlete who has run below 10 seconds this season.

The fastest the Briton has run so far this year is 9.93 seconds while Omanyala has managed to run 9.78, though wind assisted. His second fastest time so far this year was 9.84 seconds that he ran to win the Kip Keino Classic in May.

He goes into the race psyched up and ready to gauge his form as he gears up for the World Championships where he intends to make history by becoming the first African to medal on the global stage.
