The 4x400m failed to get past the first hurdle at the ongoing event in Budapest, Hungary.

The Team Kenya 4x400m mixed relay team was unsuccessful in their quest of making it to the semi-final at the ongoing World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

The team, which comprised Zablon Ekwam, Millicent Ndoro, Wycliffe Kinyamal, and Mercy Oketch unfortunately fizzled out to finish seventh in the highly contested event.

Oketch, who was in the home stretch, tried to keep momentum with the other athletes but failed to live up to the billing.

The USA carried the day as they clocked 3:10.41, a world-leading time, to cut the tape first ahead of Great Britain who clocked 3:11.19, a national record. Belgium sealed the podium after clocking a season-best of 3:11.81.

Meanwhile, in the men’s 20km race walk, Samuel Gathimba failed to live up to expectations as he faded to finish ninth in 1:18.34. Gathimba was in the leading pack for the better part of the race until around the 15km mark when he started trailing behind.

Spain’s Alvaro Martin took top honours in the race as he clocked 1:17.32 to cut the tape. Sweden’s Perseus Karlstrom and Brazil’s Caio Bonfim finished second and third in respective times of 1:17:39 and 1:17:47.
