He added that if Kipyegon finds any hitch in investing, he will be free for consultation since he is a ‘successful businessman.’

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has encouraged double-world record holder Faith Kipyegon and other athletes to be keen on investing to avoid living impoverished lives in the future.

Gachagua, speaking during the awarding ceremony of Kipyegon and Ferdinand Omanyala at State House on Tuesday morning, encouraged the duo to be prudent in the way they invest their earnings.

He added that if Kipyegon finds any hitch in investing, he will be free for consultation since he is a ‘successful businessman.’

“I want to ask our athletes to think about the future when they are investing the earnings they get from their accomplishments. It is very saddening to see people who have been successful living in poverty when they retire.

"I want to invite Faith, Omanyala, and all other athletes to look for ways of investing. And Faith should you have a problem with how exactly you can invest, I am available, I’m a very prudent businessman. I can guide you around to make sure that you succeed,” he said.

He also joked about how he could have been an athlete back then since athletes tend to make a lot of money.

“This athletics business has a lot of money…had I known this 30 years ago, I would have been the fastest man in the world,” he quipped.

Gachagua also lauded Kipyegon for her exploits which have placed Kenya on the world map. He added that Kipyegon is a source of encouragement for the upcoming athletes to market the country in a respectable way.

“What Faith has done is unprecedented and we want to celebrate our heroes. She has brought honour to this country. I encourage other patriots to join Faith and market our country well,” he said.
