Chidi Okezie leads mixed 4x400m squad to new African Record and cash prize of N11,144,000

The mixed 4x400m relay team finished as Nigeria's highest-placed squad at the World Relays, and were rewarded with a mouth-watering cash prize.

Another special performance by Chidi Okezie's inspired mixed 4x400m squad of Samuel Ogazi, Ella Onojuvwevwo, and Esther Joseph saw them blaze to a new African Record (AR) and cash prize reward of $8000 (N11,144,000) at the World Relays.

The brilliant team blazed to a blistering AR of 3:12.87 to finish fourth in the final as the USA led with a new Championship Record of 3:10.73.

By doing this, Nigeria lowered their previous AR of 3:13.26 clocked by a different quartet of Emmanuel Ojeli, Patience George, Sikiru Adeyemi, and Omolara Ogunmakinju, set to win the African Games title in Ghana.

The Netherlands anchored by the iconic Femke Bol won the silver medal in a Season's Best (SB) of 3:11.45, while a jaw-dropping second-leg performance from Rhasidat Adeleke made a difference as Ireland secured the bronze medal in a National Record (NR) of 3:11.53.

By punching their Paris Olympics ticket and being fourth-place finish, Nigeria earned the cash prize of $8000, which will be shared amongst the athletes.

The mixed 4x400m relay team finished as Nigeria's highest-placed squad at the end of the World Relays.
