Beatrice Chebet has extended her hot streak to bag the women’s 5km title at the World Road Running Championships in Riga, Latvia.
Chebet crossed the finish line first in a championship record time of 14:35 ahead of compatriot Lilian Kasait who finished second in 14:39. Ethiopia's Ejgayehu Taye completed the podium after clocking 14:40.

She finished third in the 5000m at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary before ending her track season at the Prefontaine Classic, the final Diamond League Meeting where she finished second.
Meanwhile, the highly contested race started off with Chebet and Kasait in the leading pack passing the 350m mark.
They started out hard, passing the 1km mark in 2:55 with Chebet looking very comfortable running in second place behind Taye. Another Ethiopian, Medina Eisa was also in the lead group looking to give the Kenyan duo a run for their money.
