'I don't know': Nick Emmanwori's Nigerian mother does not understand Super Bowl LX hype

Nick Emmanwori's Nigerian mother delivered a refreshingly honest response when asked what to expect from Super Bowl LX between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots

While the rest of the world counts down the hours to the showdown at Levi’s Stadium, one person remains refreshingly calm: Justina Emmanwori.

The mother of Seattle Seahawks’ breakout star Nick Emmanwori admitted in a viral video on X that she is still trying to wrap her head around why everyone is so obsessed with a game of football.

The Emmanwori family is currently en route to Santa Clara to watch the 14–3 Seahawks take on the 14–3 New England Patriots in a legacy-defining rematch of Super Bowl XLIX.

But for Justina, the magnitude of the event is only just starting to sink in through the reactions of others.

Justina Emmanwori is not hyped by the Super Bowl.

"To be honest with you, I don't know," Justina said when asked about the gravity of the game. "Everybody keep asking me, do you know what you are, what they are going for?"

When a reporter pressed her on whether she truly understood the scale of the Super Bowl, her response was pure, unfiltered Naija mother energy:

Nick, PFWA All-Rookie Team selection and a frontrunner for Defensive Rookie of the Year.

“I said, Super Bowl. They said, 'Do you know how many people died to go to the Super Bowl?' I'm like, 'How? I don't know.' I have opportunity to go there, so I'm like, OK, maybe this is something big that I don't know. I don't know what I'm expecting. All I'm going there is to shout 'Ya Super Bowl touchdown, we win.' That's it. That's what I'm going to do.”

The X-Factor: Nick Emmanwori

While his mother might be casual about the spectacle, the NFL is anything but casual about her son. Nick Emmanwori has been the "chess piece" of the 2025-2026 season.

Standing at 6'3" and 220 lbs with 4.38 speed, the rookie out of South Carolina has redefined the safety position under Coach Mike Macdonald.

A PFWA All-Rookie Team selection and a frontrunner for Defensive Rookie of the Year, Emmanwori has spent a staggering 45% of his snaps in the box terrorising offences as a hybrid defender.

Seahawks fans held their collective breath on Wednesday when the star defender went down with an ankle injury during practice.

However, the Naija Spirit seems to be in full effect. As of Saturday morning, Emmanwori has been cleared with no injury designation

Super Bowl LX: The Stakes

This Sunday's matchup is a clash of titans. Both the Seahawks and Patriots enter with identical 14–3 records, setting the stage for a tactical war between Seattle's Sam Darnold, who is seeking his first ring in a career-revitalising season, and the Patriots' sophomore sensation Drake Maye, who missed the MVP trophy by a mere five votes.

  • Game Details:

  • Kickoff: Sunday, February 8, 2026

  • National Anthem: Charlie Puth

  • Halftime Show: Bad Bunny

Whether Justina Emmanwori fully grasps the history of the "1-yard line" or the global reach of the halftime show, one thing is certain: she’ll be the loudest voice in Santa Clara when her son takes the field.
