Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey is full of confidence ahead of Nigeria’s high-stakes clash against the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia.

Nigeria and Tunisia are set to meet in a Group C showdown at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, with both sides looking to seize control of the group and ease their way into the knockout rounds.

The highly anticipated encounter, slated for the Complexe Sportif de Fès, carries a sense of unfinished business for Nigeria.

The Carthage Eagles famously defeated the Super Eagles 1-0 the last time both countries met in a Round of 16 tie during the 2021 edition. Furthermore, Tunisia arrive in red-hot form following their dominant 3-1 victory over Uganda on Tuesday.

Despite the threat posed by the North Africans, Bassey insists there is nothing to fear.

“Tunisia are a good team, and we should expect a difficult game, but we have enough quality to win it,” the Fulham defender predicted.

Echoing Bassey’s confidence, Super Eagles midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru insisted that the prestige of the tournament itself provides all the incentive required to perform.

The Lazio playmaker highlighted that finishing at the summit of Group C is the primary objective for Eric Chelle’s men.

"I think just being in the AFCON by itself is enough motivation for us to go and try and get the victory tomorrow," Dele-Bashiru stated.

"Of course, it’s an important match for us if you want to finish top of the group, so we’ll do everything we can to get the job done.

"With both teams currently sitting on three points, today's result will likely determine who proceeds as group leaders, making it one of the most pivotal fixtures of the opening round in Morocco.
