VOLLEYBALL Tunisia to host Women’s Club Championship

Newly promoted OBB women won the National Club Championship to book one of the tickets to this year’s competition. Ndejje also qualified by winning last season’s league title.

The Africa Volleyball Confederation (CAVB) has confirmed Tunisia as the host for the 2023 Women’s African Volleyball Club Championship.

In a letter sent out to all national federations, it was confirmed that the championship will be held in the Tunisian capital of Tunis from May 13 to 26th.

“We have the pleasure to inform you that CAVB has entrusted Tunisia Volleyball Federation the organisation of the 2023 Women’s African Volleyball Club Championship to be held in Tunis, Tunisia between 13th and 26th May 2023,” part of the dated February 1st read.

The Tunisian coastal town of Kelibia hosted the last championship that saw Kenya’s KCB defeat Egypt’s Al Ahly 3-1 to win the title.

Teams will be expected to arrive in Tunisia by May 13th just in time for the technical meeting scheduled for May 14th. The action will serve off on May 15th and climax on May 25th.

“This is to invite all Federations to kindly register their club representatives by sending to CAVB not later than 31st March 2023 the attached Registration Form and O-2 Form,” the letter noted.

Each federation can register up to three teams while the country from where the defending champions come has four slots.

In 2022, Uganda was represented by Ndejje Elites, who went on to finish 10th out of 16 teams.

Ronald Kitosi’s charges fell 3-2 to Rwanda Revenue Authority in the fight for ninth place and settled for 1oth on their fourth appearance in the competition.

It remains to be seen how many Ugandan teams will confirm participation in the championship.

Meanwhile, OBB and Sport-S, who won the league and Club Championship respectively are the men’s side that qualified for the continental showpiece.
