The two sides, alongside Ndejje Elites and OBB, occupy the top four places and look like they will go to the playoffs after the regular season.

Sport-S and KCCA Ladies are two of the teams projected to fight for this year’s Women’s National Volleyball League title.

The two sides, alongside Ndejje Elites and OBB, occupy the top four places and look like they will go to the playoffs after the regular season.

But with KCCA defeating Sport-S 3-0 in the first round, revenge was top of the agenda when the two sides met for their second round clash at the Old Kampala Arena on Sunday.

It was Malick Ddamulira’s charges who took the day, stopping a late KCCA charge to win 3-1 and take maximum points.

Shila Omuriwe’s troops were out-of-sorts in the first two sets and found themselves 2-0 down. Sport-S took the first set 25-15 and the second 25-18.

Sport-S setter Doreen Akiteng connected well with her offensive options to negotiate the KCCA net defence.

Diana Asiimwe from outside and Esther Tumwebaze through the middle were unplayable and made life hard for the KCCA block.

Defensively, Sport-S were superb and any ball that made it through the block found good cover defence by the Nsambya outfit.

KCCA’s experience didn't help on the day. The Kasasiro Girls got back into the contest by taking the third frame 25-15 but despite a strong fight back in the fourth, Sport-S held their nerves to take it 25-22 and take all three points.

Crucial win

For Sport-S, the win was very important considering Ndejje Elites had earlier beaten Espoir in straight sets to go top of the log.

Ronald Kitosi’s charges had to dig deep on the day with Espoir twice forcing a deuce.

Since Sport-S lost to KCCA at the end of the first round, the top spot has been changing hands between the top two sides.

And with the regular season about to get into the final bend, every point matters. Sport-S and Ndejje are now tied on 26 points.
