‘They'll definitely be looking over their shoulders’ - Rooney warns, Tottenham will be relegated with their poor form

The defeat leaves Thomas Frank's team in 15th place, just six points clear of the relegation zone.

The club's struggles follow a turbulent period that saw them finish 17th last season, leading to the dismissal of manager Ange Postecoglou despite a Europa League triumph.

Rooney speaks on Tottenham’s performance

Following the loss, Rooney analysed Spurs situation based on their recent form in the Premier League.

"You'd have to say they are [in a relegation battle] with their current form," Rooney stated on The Wayne Rooney Show

"West Ham have been in form, Nottingham Forest pick up results here and there. You can't think that they're not in a relegation battle where they are. I think they'll definitely be looking over their shoulders."

Tottenham's task at Old Trafford was made more difficult by a first-half red card for captain Cristian Romero, who was sent off for a late challenge on Casemiro. It marked his sixth dismissal for the club.

"I can see why it's been given but I think it's a little bit harsh," Rooney commented on the decision. "Sometimes you lose your head at times. And I think he's done that throughout his time at Tottenham."

The incident followed a controversial social media post from Romero earlier in the week, where he described it as "disgraceful" that the club had only 11 fit players for their 2-2 draw against Manchester City.

Rooney suggested the captain's public criticism was unhelpful. "What doesn't help is comments in the week before about the lack of players Tottenham have," he added.

"He clearly speaks his mind as well. But unfortunately, you've got to go and back that up with performances when you're vocal like that—and I don't think he's done that. All that's going to do is bring more pressure on Thomas Frank."
