REPORT: Sha'Carri Richardson and Julien Alfred listed for epic showdown at Miramar Invitational in Florida
Paris Olympic stars Sha'Carri Richardson and Julien Alfred are reportedly set to renew their rivalry after being listed among the top stars to compete at the Miramar Invitational in Florida on April 5.
The early entry list for the elite meet shows the sprint queens and Jamaican track icon Shericka Jackson among the top athletes registered to compete on Saturday. Others include Kishane Thompson, Steven Gardiner, and Tajay Gayle.
If the reports are accurate and they do compete, the Miramar Invitational will be another exciting event for track fans to anticipate this weekend, as it coincides with Michael Johnson's inaugural Grand Slam Track League, holding from April 4-6 in Kingston, Jamaica.
Also, Richardson and Alfred will rekindle their rivalry from last season, following the latter's triumph in the 100m final at the Paris Olympic Games to become Saint Lucia's first gold medallist in history.
Richardson got her rematch revenge at the Zurich Diamond League, where she won in 10.84s but succumbed to Alfred's supremacy again in their last race of the 2024 season in Brussels with the Saint Lucian star taking home her first Diamond League trophy.
With the 2025 new season birthing a fresh start, the American sprint queen will aim to make a comeback statement in her first race of the year.
In 2023, Richardson brilliantly opened her season at the same meet, blazing to a wind-aided 10.75s in the heat and jaw-dropping 10.57s (4.1) in the final. The 25-year-old will later clock the most sub-11s time (12) for the rest of the year, highlighted by her 10.65s winning performance at the world championships in Budapest.
Hopefully, the Miramar Invitational can bring the same good fortune for Richardson for the rest of her season with the ultimate goal of defending her 100m title at the Tokyo World Championships in September.
Meanwhile, Alfred will be gunning to prove her Olympic and Diamond League victory was no fluke by getting another famous win over Richardson to officially kick start her season ahead of challenging the American for the world title in Tokyo.
