Michael Carrick targets Marcus Rashford's return if appointed Manchester United manager
Michael Carrick has reportedly identified Marcus Rashford as a cornerstone of his long-term vision at Manchester United should he be appointed the club’s permanent manager.
According to sources close to the situation, the current caretaker boss is keen to reunite with the England international and would push for Rashford’s return from his loan spell at Barcelona if he were to secure the role on a full-time basis.
Carrick, who played alongside Rashford before retiring, is believed to be confident in his ability to unlock the forward’s best form and reintegrate him as a leading figure at Old Trafford.
Rashford joined Barcelona on loan earlier this season, with the Spanish giants holding an option to make the move permanent for a reported fee of €30 million.
However, Barcelona is said to view the asking price as excessive, particularly given their ongoing financial constraints. This hesitation could open the door for Manchester United to bring the 26-year-old back into the fold should no agreement be reached.
A permanent switch to Camp Nou would also likely require Rashford to accept a significant reduction in his current wages, which could further complicate negotiations.
