The club parted ways with the 50-year-old just two days before their Premier League match against Everton.
The decision came after a poor start to the season, with the Hammers securing only one win in six games across all competitions.
The club also had an early exit from the Carabao Cup and are currently 19th in the EPL league table.
What Potter said
In a statement released, as reported by the Sun, through the League Managers Association, the former Chelsea and Brighton boss expressed his disappointment but acknowledged the team's performance.;
"I am incredibly disappointed to be leaving West Ham United, particularly without being able to achieve what we set out to achieve at the start of our journey in East London," Potter said.
"I do, however, fully acknowledge that the results have just not been good enough up to now. It was an honour and a privilege to manage such a historic club, which holds such strong values for footballing traditions and passion for the game," he continued.
"I'd like to thank all the staff at the club who made me feel so welcome, the playing squad and their continued efforts during my time. Lastly, the fans, who have been so supportive during what has been a difficult journey at times.
“I wish the club nothing but the best of luck for the future. Thank you and goodbye for now. "Come on, you Irons."
West Ham have moved quickly to appoint former Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo as his successor.
