‘It's always hard’ - Super Eagles goalkeeper opens up on two-month betting suspension
The goalkeeper was found guilty of getting involved in betting and was issued a two-month ban from football.
The Super Eagles goalkeeper misses the first eight matches of the season, including Nigeria’s last four World Cup qualifying games.
However, he was recently restored to the starting lineup after completing his two-month suspension related to betting.
Okoye speaks on betting ban
Okoye reflected on his return to action and the support he received during his time away from the pitch.
"I was out of the game for a while, and it's always hard when you don't have football, but the goalkeeping coaches and the other lads have always helped me," Okoye explained. "I feel good and I'm happy. I want to keep growing and learn something new every day."
Upon his return, he has played three games for Udinese and has won just one game without keeping a clean sheet.
His recent loss came in a 3-1 defeat against Juventus last weekend, despite having a good performance in the game.
Since his return, the 26-year-old has conceded six goals in three appearances and is still searching for his first clean sheet of the campaign.
His form will be closely monitored by Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle ahead of the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Gabon.
