‘He's back’ - Birmingham City manager welcomes Osayi after making Nigeria proud at AFCON
Osayi-Samuel was instrumental in Nigeria's campaign, which culminated in a bronze medal finish after a 4-2 penalty shootout victory over Egypt in the third-place playoff.
The former Fenerbahçe player was a standout performer, contributing with solid defensive displays and powerful offensive runs that helped establish the Super Eagles as one of the most dynamic attacking teams in the tournament.
The defender now returns to his club, Birmingham City, as he looks to help his side finish the season strong.
Davies hails Osayi’s return
During a pre-match press conference, Davies praised Osayi-Samuel's contributions to the Nigerian national team, highlighting his commendable efforts despite the team falling short of the AFCON title.
"He's back, which is great news, and congratulations to him for his performances and Nigeria's in the tournament," Davies stated.
"Although they couldn't go on to win it, they certainly did the country proud and Bright really enjoyed being part of that, so we are pleased to have him back."
Concerns about Osayi-Samuel's availability for the upcoming match at St. Andrew's Stadium arose after he was substituted with a hamstring injury during the second half of the game against Egypt.
However, the Blues' manager provided a positive fitness update, confirming that the Nigerian international has been evaluated by the club's medical staff and is cleared to play against Stoke City.
"He is available," Davies confirmed. "There was a little something there, but we’ve had him checked out and he’s trained as well today, he's fine."
The 28-year-old has been absent for Birmingham's last nine matches and will be eager to make his return against the Potters on Saturday.
