Gor Mahia Extend Winless Run to Three Games After Shared Spoils Against Stubborn Bandari
Gor Mahia missed a chance to go ahead of Kenya Police as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Bandari FC, extending their winless run to three games.
K’Ogalo went into the match at Mbaraki Sports Complex in Mombasa on Friday keen to banish the memories of their Mashemeji Derby loss last Sunday and seemed to be headed to three points before allowing Bandari a share of the spoils.
In a game where there were very few chances, Gor Mahia’s best chance fell to Shariff Musa after 10 minutes when the winger met Austin Odhiambo’s ball from a freekick but headed over the bar.
Ramadhan Juma would test Gor Mahia goalkeeper Byrne Omondi with a ferocious shot from outside the box but the former Bandari shot stopper saved it well in the 22nd minute.
How Did the Goals Come About?
However, Bandari would go down at the 30-minute mark when Musa made a good run on the right wing and brought in a low cross which was swept home by Ghanaian Ebenezer Adu-Kwaw.
The Bandari defenders did not track Adu-Kwaw’s run, allowing him to get quickly in the box to meet Musa’s well-taken cross.
Gor Mahia headed to the break leading 1-0 but upon resumption, it took Bandari 12 minutes to equalise. Following a foul, the enterprising Abadallah Hassan stepped up and delivered a pin-point ball from a freekick which Geoffrey Ojunga headed in for 1-1.
It was another goal against K’Ogalo for the former Gor Mahia Youth player which saw the dockers increase the tempo although there was no end product.
K’Ogalo Unable to Win it at The Death
However, both sides had chances to win it in the final minutes, Bandari fluffing their lines before Patrick Esombe had the best chance with the final kick of the game when he was played in by Odhiambo.
Instead of shooting after getting into space, he opted to cross for Musa but the latter was far away from the ball as the chance was wasted.
It sees Gor Mahia go three games without a win, having picked just one point from a possible nine, following a 4-1 loss to APs Bomet and 1-0 defeat to AFC Leopards before Friday’s draw in Mombasa.
Despite the draw, Gor Mahia are top of the standings with 20 points from 11 games, same as Kenya Police and Kakamega Homeboyz although the latter have played 12 matches while the law enforcers have 10.
