Harambee Stars defender Collins Sichenje will have to wait a little longer to make his English Championship debut.

‎Sichenje, who joined Charlton Athletic from Serbian club Vojvodina in January, has had to contend with spells on the bench since his arrival.

‎The Kenyan defender was an unused substitute in a third straight match when Charlton lost 3-1 to Portsmouth on Tuesday night.

Charlton's hopes of going four games without defeat, and three wins in four, went up in smoke when they suffered the disappointing home loss.

‎It was a bad start for Charlton as they went 2-0 down inside 35 minutes with Terry Devlin breaking the deadlock after 22 minutes before Colby Bishop doubled the advantage via a penalty.

‎Five Subs but Sichenje Misses Out

‎Upon resumption, Charlton coach Nathan Jones made three changes in a bid to get a tune out of his team but suffered a setback 11 minutes later, when Devlin scored his brace and Charlton's third.

‎That effectively killed off the game with Jayden Fevrier scoring the consolation for Charlton in the 64th minute.

‎Jones made a couple of late substitutions but there was no room for Sichenje as the Kenyan missed out for the third straight game, having watched from the bench when Charlton played Queens Park Rangers and Stoke City.

‎Jones went with a back three that had Kayne Ramsey, Loyd Jones and Amari'i Bell with another new signing Conor Coady, another central defender, deployed in midfield but it did not prevent Pompey from securing the big win.

‎Defeat left Charlton 18th on the 24-team table with 39 points and will hope to bounce back on Saturday when they play away to Southampton, with Sichenje looking forward to a potential debut for his new club.
