Arsenal vs Sunderland: Gunners edge closer to EPL title, extend lead to nine points following win over Black Cats
The Gunners head into the game having booked a place in the final of the Carabao Cup following their win over Chelsea.
Mikel Arteta's men were brimming with confidence ahead of the game and looking to extend their lead to nine points on the table.
They went on to defeat Sunderland 3-0 and extend the point gap on the league table ahead of Manchester City's clash with Liverpool.
As it happened
There was no Bukayo Saka or Martin Odegaard in the Arsenal squad, as Gabriel Jesus made the starting XI.
The first half started a bit difficult for the Gunners, but Martin Zubimendi's thunderous strike from outside the box put Arsenal ahead before the halftime break.
Arsenal continued their control in the second half, but needed the introduction of Victor Gyokeres to get the second goal of the game after Sunderland failed to clear the ball to a safe distance.
Gyokeres added the third goal for Arsenal and his second of the game after finishing off a counter attack from Gabriel Martinelli.
The Gunners controlled the remainder of the game, leaving no space for the Black Cats to find a way back in the game, with the game ending 3-0.
