Alaba Akintola showed his supremacy as the best Nigerian 200m runner, blazing pass the field to win his second consecutive national title in Benin.

For the second consecutive year, Alaba Akintola is the Nigerian champion in the men's 200m event after racing to an impressive time of 20.68s at the Nigeria Trials in Benin.

Just like last year, when Akintola settled for second position in the 100m and came back to win the 200m title, the same scenario played out this time.

He pulled clear of newly crowned 100m champion Usheoritse Itsekiri, who finished second in 20.92s, and Adebisi Musibau third in 21.00s.

Akintola, Itsekiri, and other selected sprinters will now shift their focus to the African Region II Championships in Togo this weekend, where they will be running together in the 4x100m relays in a bid to improve on Nigeria's position and qualify for the World Championships in Budapest.
