‘Africa needs people who can represent us’ - Rwanda coach commends Nigeria after making World Cup playoff

Rwanda's head coach, Adel Amrouche, has praised both South Africa and Nigeria for their successful 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaigns.

Nigeria also finished their group stage campaign on a high note, defeating Benin Republic 4-0 in Uyo to secure a place in the World Cup playoff

The match featured a remarkable performance from Victor Osimhen, who scored his third career hat-trick for his country to keep their World Cup aspirations alive.

South Africa also secured a direct spot in the FIFA World Cup for the first time since hosting the event in 2010.

This victory edged out Nigeria by a single point, with the Super Eagles securing a place in the playoffs.

Amrouche praises Nigeria 

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Amrouche congratulated both nations on their achievements and urged them to carry the continent's hopes with distinction.

"I am happy for the coach of Bafana Bafana and for all the teams because Africa needs people who can represent us, like Nigeria, a strong team that can represent the continent at the World Cup," Amrouche stated.

"And now the responsibility is big on them, because when you play for the continent, you must give more than what we saw in these qualifiers. You must always be at the top."

Looking ahead, the Super Eagles are set to face Gabon in the semi-final of the continental playoffs in Morocco on November 13, with their final seeding dependent on the upcoming FIFA rankings.
