A new Sha'Carri Richardson: Video shows the moment speedster tossed her wig before winning the US title

Sha'Carri Richardson's personality on and off track cannot be over-emphasized as she created another crowd-erupting moment at the US Championships.

In the women's 100m final, while all finalists were on their starting blocks, the stadium announcer was set to introduce Richardson to the crowd. In that period, the speedster created a never before seen moment in athletics history.

Richardson tossed her orange wig, showing off braided hair underneath. The spectators at the stadium erupted in their amazement and regarded it as one of the talking points at the championship.

The 23-year-old will later win the race, clocking a swift 10.82s (0.7) for her first US title and securing her spot on the US team to the World Championships in Budapest. 

Her winning time was a follow-up to the effortless 10.75s clocked earlier in the semis and her then world-leading Personal Best (PB) of 10.71s in the prelims. She couldn't go lower than these times as her start let her down but still found the drive for the needed victory.

A day before, Richardson posted on her Instagram page an old picture of herself on an orange wig and captioned it: "I remember you, I love you," which looking at it now, meant a new version of herself was about to be born.

The US sensation is one of the favourites for the world title. However, she will have newly crowned Jamaican champion and world leader Shericka Jackson (10.65s), Cote D'Ivoire's Marie-Josee Ta Lou (10.75s), and defending champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce to contend with in Budapest.
