Wrestling: Nigeria's Odunayo Adekuroye teach her opponent 'lessons' in Serbia

The World Championship is slated for September 16 to 22, in Belgrade, Serbia.

Three-time Commonwealth Champion Odunayo Adekuoroye has taught her Brazilian opponent Giulia Oliveira lessons at the ongoing World Championship in Belgrade, Serbia.

The seven times African Champion and reigning Commonwealth Champion, Adekuoroye, defeated the Brazilian in the quarter final of the championship on Tuesday.

The World Championship is slated for September 16 to 22, in Belgrade, Serbia.

Odunayo Adekuoroye participated in the 57 kg category and leading other 10-man contingent comprises six wrestlers, two coaches, one medical personnel, and two officials to the championship.

Adekuoroye has teach her Brazilian opponent Giulia Oliveira lessons at the ongoing World Championship in Belgrade, Serbia.

The 2017 World Silver medallist promised said, “I feel great and happy to be back in Nigeria. This is my first tournament after the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and I am excited to be back on the mat. There is a lot of work to be done but I believe I will get it right.

“I am going to put in my very best at the forthcoming 2023 World Wrestling Championships in Serbia next September 2023. I have been at various World Championships in the last 10 years and there is no room for flaws.”

Meanwhile, the President of the Nigerian Wrestling Federation (NWF), Dr. Daniel Igali, expressed optimism that Nigerian wrestlers, with their talent and drive, can earn many podium finishes in Serbia.

The President said, “With the wrestlers’ exceptional talent and unwavering determination, they can secure multiple podium finishes, quickly settle in, find their rhythm and get ready to take on the challenges that lay ahead”.
