On Sunday afternoon, the Banyana Banyana of South Africa arrived in Abuja in preparation for their first-leg Olympic qualifying match against the Super Falcons of Nigeria, which is scheduled for Friday, April 5, 2024.

Desiree Ellis, the senior women's team coach from South Africa, clarified that the team decided to arrive in Nigeria early in order to help them get used to the various weather conditions in Abuja compared to their own country.

After spending a week preparing in a local camp in Pretoria, South Africa, from March 25–31, 2024, Ellis departed with 17 players.

Three players who are based abroad, Refiloe Jane, Noko Matlou, and Jermaine Seoposenwe, have joined the team in Abuja.

Thembi Kgatlana, Linda Mothlalo, Sinoxolo Cesane, and Hildah Magaia have not yet joined the team.

The South African Embassy in Abuja extended a cordial welcome to the crew, and Lindi Mnimela spoke on behalf of South African High Commissioner Thami Mseleku to convey the best wishes.

The team will continue their preparations through Thursday after their first official training session on Monday afternoon.
