France reigns supreme as Kenya's Chipu struggles in the 2023 World Rugby U20 Championship and Trophy season.

The Kenya Under-20 rugby men's side, affectionately known as Chipu, concluded their journey in the 2023 World Rugby U20 Trophy season with a disappointing sixth-place finish.

The tournament concluded just 16 days after the premier competition World U20 Championship ended with France being crowned champions after hammering Ireland 50-14.

The joint standings of the World U20 Championship and U20 Trophy have now been released with Kenya who were the hosts of the latter sitting in 18th position.

Rugby powerhouse France topped the rankings, followed by Ireland, with South Africa remaining in third place.

England held onto the fourth spot, while Australia secured the fifth position in the rankings, closely followed by Wales, New Zealand, Germany, and Argentina.

France emerged as the 2023 World Rugby Championship for the third consecutive time, exerting their dominance in age-grade rugby.

Meanwhile, in the recently hosted World U20 Trophy in Nairobi, Spain emerged victorious, with Kenya managing a sixth-place finish.

However, Chipu's final match against Zimbabwe ended in a crushing 64-10 defeat, prompting the Kenyan side to question their preparedness and approach to such significant tournaments.

Chipu's coach, Curtis Olago, remains resolute and optimistic, emphasizing that success in these tournaments goes beyond merely having a team in camp for an extended period.

"Success in these tournaments goes beyond just having a team in camp for an extended period," Olago asserted as per Nation.

"It begins with identifying and nurturing young talent, ensuring they receive the right coaching and exposure. It's about building a strong foundation for the future of Kenyan rugby."

The other African nation in the joint top 20 rankings is Zimbabwe, which remains stagnant in the 17th position.

Their noteworthy victory against Kenya in the World Rugby U20 Trophy demonstrated the emergence of Zimbabwean rugby on the global stage, signaling a promising future for the sport in the country.
