The fourth edition of the Azimuth Shipping Lines Limited Junior Tennis Championship ends in a grand style in Lagos.

Winners have emerged at the fourth edition of the Azimuth Shipping Lines Limited Junior Tennis Championship in Lagos.

The championship starts on Monday and ends on Saturday at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan, Lagos.

Winners emerged in different categories

Last year’s runners-up, Jhon Nubari came from a set down to win the boy’s U-16, the Port Harcourt player defeated Sanni Yahaya 2-1 (5-7, 6-2, 10-4), and Khadijat Mohammed won the girl’s U-16.

Medals and trophies for the winners

Gbolahan Olawale and Lovely Hosendorff emerged as winners in the U-14 boys and girls categories, respectively.

In the U-12 category, Emmanuella Kwange from Niger State defeated Atibola Mofifoluwa 2-0 (6-2, 6-2) to win the girl's singles while Chukwudubem Amasiami beats Peter Ubebi 2-0, (6-3, 6-1) to win the boys singles.

Winners earn N100,000 educational grant

The Tournament Director, Coach Richard Inyang, said the winner from each category will go away with N100,000.

He explained further that the prize money increased for this edition, adding that the cash prize will start from the Quarterfinalists.

He said, “This year promises to be different as the sponsor has assured us that his prizes will start from the quarterfinal.

“Losing Quarterfinalists will be going home with N20,000, Semi-finalists will be going home with N30,000 then the Runners-up will be going home with N50,000 while the winner will go home with N100,000.

Inyang said the cash prize will not be given to the players, saying it will be an education grant to support their education.
