Jannik Sinner made lightwork of Emil Ruusuvouri in their Miami quarterfinal match to reach his second Sunshine Double semifinal in a year.

Jannik Sinner had an easy win in his quarterfinal match, defeating Emil Ruusuvouri 6-3, 6-1 to reach back-to-back Miami semifinals.

The young Italian's magnificent backhand sealed the win in the first set, and after a lengthy rain delay that stopped play with Sinner leading 2-0 in the second set. The match resumed and a series of brilliant plays ensured he soared to the last four.

Sinner is the male player with the fewest games dropped (23 so far) en route to the semifinals at the Miami Open since Rafael Nadal (21) and Novak Djokovic (also 23) in 2014.

He is also the seventh male player to reach the semifinals in Indian Wells and Miami in a single year before turning 22 after Agassi (1990), Courier (1991), Djokovic (2007), Andy Murray (2007 and 2009), Nadal (2008) and Carlos Alcaraz (2022).

Another exceptional stat is that at 21 years and 225 days, Sinner is the Italian player with the joint-most ATP Masters 1000 semifinals (three, level with Fabio Fognini) - since 1990.

Speaking after the match on beating Ruusuvouri, the Indian Wells semifinalist said he's just happy to play in another semifinals again.

“I try my best every time I step on court. When I play well, I feel well, and I know I can play with anyone. I have to get used to the important matches. I have a semifinal again, so I’m happy about that and my performance for Sunshine Double. So let’s see,” he said.

Sinner will play the winner between Carlos Alcaraz and Taylor Fritz for a spot in the final.
