Pan African Scrabble Association President’s Cup is slated to take place from August 24 to 28 in Lagos.

The Minister of Sports, Sunday Dare, has charged the Scrabble Federation of Nigeria to discover at the grassroots level in order to maintain its current standing at international championships.

Dare admonished the Federation when a delegation presented him with the PAN African Scrabble Championship Trophy.

The minister commended 8-year-old Saviour Onazi, the National Junior Scrabble Champion, for making the country proud and assured that the Ministry will support his education and tournaments as part of its Talent Hunt Program.

“I am glad to receive the trophy, and as the trophy makes its tour, I know that it will come back to Nigeria after the Tournament”, Dare said

Dare said that the adoption of the National Sports Industry Policy (NSIP), which classed sports as a business rather than a recreational activity, bodes well for Nigerian sports in the future.

In order to prepare for hosting the inaugural Pan-African Scrabble Championship in Nigeria in August, he urged the Federation to raise awareness of the upcoming event.

Meanwhile, the President, PAN African Scrabble Association, Adekoyejo Adegbesan, appreciated the Ministry for its support to the Federation, stressing that they will deploy their technical expertise to solidify their dominance in the game.
