Daniel Adeleye Uzbekistan's Ilya Ignatov in a highly tensed match to hand Nigeria a historic promotion ticket to World Group II of the Davis Cup.

Following Nigeria earning a landmark promotion to the Davis Cup World Group II after a commanding victory over Uzbekistan at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, NSC boss Bukola Olopade has hailed the tennis community.

The decisive moment came on Sunday when Daniel Adeleye delivered a masterful performance in the reverse singles, defeating Ilya Ignatov 6-3, 6-4.

Adeleye's victory gave Nigeria an insurmountable 3-1 lead in the tie, sealing their promotion with one match still to play and delighting the home crowd.

The triumph was lauded by National Sports Commission (NSC) Director General Bukola Olopade, who commended the team and the Nigeria Tennis Federation for their collective effort.

"We are extremely proud of the accomplishments of these players and the Nigeria Tennis Federation," Olopade stated. "This promotion is proof that Nigerian sports is firmly on the right track."

Nigeria's path to victory was paved by a pivotal doubles win. Canice Abua and Michael Emmanuel teamed up to defeat Khumoyun Sultanov and Denis Istomin in straight sets, giving the hosts a crucial 2-1 advantage after Saturday's singles matches had left the tie evenly poised at 1-1.

Building on that momentum, the Nigerian team displayed exceptional composure and resolve on Sunday, winning both singles matches to cap off a memorable and successful campaign on home soil.
