Dalia López is the fugitive businesswoman who allegedly issued former Brazilian soccer player Ronaldinho and his brother Roberto fake passports in 2020.

The inquiry that led to the previous arrest of former Brazil football legend Ronaldinho continues to stall following the absence of a key figure in the scam case.

Paraguay's Attorney General's Office has requested for the fourth time that an arrest warrant be issued for Dalia López - the businesswoman who allegedly ordered the false passports with which Ronaldinho and his brother entered Paraguay nearly three years ago.

Due to the illegality of these safe-conducts, the two Brazilians were arrested preventively first in a prison and then in a luxury hotel due to the COVID-19 health situation.

López has since been reported missing since March 2020 and neither the Paraguayan National Police nor Interpol have managed to find her despite the three previous arrest warrants that have been issued.

According to a report from AS, the first arrest dates from March 7, 2020 and, given the businesswoman's failure to appear in court, she was declared in absentia.

Who is Dalian Lopez?

López is accused of allegedly belonging "to a criminal organization structured in such a way as to facilitate the preparation and use of identity documents and passports of false content."

The objective of the criminal practice attributed to her was to "generate legal business and / or patrimonial benefits".

López, who was the president of the charitable foundation to which Ronaldinho was going to lend his image, has not attended any of the court summonses to which she was summoned, reports AS.

Ronaldinho's arrest in 2020

López has been missing since the arrest a month ago of Ronaldo de Assis Moreira popularly known as Robaldinho and his brother Roberto, who in 2020, a judge granted house arrest, which they served in a hotel in downtown Asunción.

That alternative measure was granted after the payment of a bail of $1.6 million.

Ronaldinho and his brother Roberto were accused of using public documents of false content since last March 4 they entered Paraguay through the international airport of Asunción.

Why was Ronaldinho arrested?

Ronaldinho was arrested then later released from prison and placed under house arrest in Paraguay

According to reports, Ronaldinho was hired by López in 2020 for the 'Gaucho' to participate in a charity event.

However, the police arrested him at the hotel in Asunción where they were staying and sent him and his brother to a prison where they was interned for more than a month.

His arrest lasted six months being that he spent part of his sentence in the hotel after paying almost €1.5 million.

Almost €185,000 euros ($200,000) fine was the price to suspend the procedure on the understanding that the only crime that could be attributed to them was to have provided their photographs to make the false passports.

Along with all parties involved, twenty other people were also reportedly charged including some Migration officials, allegedly linked to López's organization.
