Former Ivory Coast captain Yaya Toure has today Friday joined the coaching crew at Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur.

The 39-year-old former Manchester City midfielder returns to the Premier League where he starred for the Mancunians for eight years between 2010 and 2018.

The Lilywhites are his next step in a budding coaching career that has seen him take up assistant coaching jobs at Ukrainian club Olimpik Donetsk and Russian side Akhmat Grozny.

Tottenham Hotspur confirmed Toure's appointment on Friday in an official press statement published on the club's website.

The multiple African Player of the Year winner will take charge of the club's U16 side and joins Tottenham's burgeoning list of Academy coaches which includes former England striker Jermaine Defoe.

The club's press statement read in part: "Three-time Premier League winner Yaya Touré has taken up the role of Under-16s Coach.

"The former Barcelona and Manchester City midfielder, who has tasted glory in the UEFA Champions League, La Liga, Copa del Rey, the FA Cup, League Cup and Africa Cup of Nations with Ivory Coast during a glittering playing career, had an initial spell working with our Academy staff during the second half of last season."
