“We’ve reduced the wage bill by around €100m, and so we’re planning to reduce another €70m. We’ve saved Barcelona from financial ruin, yes."

He did not speak in detail on the club’s current debt situation, but did mention that he believed the club to be on the right track to being financially stable again.

Laporta believes Barcelona is in control of its finances

He added that the measures that the club has taken so far have put Barcelona back “in control” of its finances and the club was now growing economically.

Barcelona were able to bring big names like Robert Lewandowski to the club in the summer

"I want to talk about the economic situation. We saved the club, we took decisions to reduce debts and now we are in control." He said, before adding “we have had attendance records in the 'ticketing' of the Palau and the Camp Nou, also an unprecedented increase in visits to the museum and in the sale of shirts. It is an indication of our economic growth."

Laporta took over as Barcelona president with the club in financial ruin after years of mismanagement from the former administration led by Jose Maria Bartomeu, but he has overseen a turnaround for the club, managing to keep the team competititve with numerous signings in just over  one year in charge of the club.
