Liverpool head coach Arne Slot said that his team needed to improve in key areas despite the victory against Qarabag.
Despite a comfortable victory against Qarabag in the Champions League, Liverpool's head coach, Arne Slot, insisted that they had aspects to improve, specifying their need to perform better in either box.
The Reds destroyed Qarabag in their final Champions League game of the group phase, beating them 6-0 to advance hassle-free. Despite the dominance and the subsequent result, Arne Slot believes his side still have room for improvement.
What Slot said
Speaking to reporters after the game, the Reds boss expressed elation over the performance but did not get carried away amid their dismal league form, stating that they still needed to improve on both ends of the pitch.
"I'm very pleased with the performance,” he said, per the BBC. “We know we can still improve – and need to improve – in both boxes, but it was a very good performance. It's always important to get the early goals to get the crowd on our side. We know we can do even better, but we're pleased."
The victory helped Liverpool finish third in the league phase standings, behind Arsenal and Bayern Munich. They are one of the eight teams already in the round of 16, having avoided the uncertainty of the playoffs.
Liverpool’s struggles this season
While their Champions League form has been good enough to earn them automatic qualification, their showing in the Premier League has been unworthy of a defending champion.
They have already lost seven matches this season in 23 matches. Including six draws, it tells the story of grim results this season with the Reds struggling defensively, specifically when facing long balls.
