Manchester City and Argentina striker Julian Alvarez wants Lionel Messi to keep playing for the national team for as long as he can.

Alvarez and Messi teamed up to guide Argentina to victory in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The duo will reunite for Lionel Scaloni's team at the upcoming Copa America, potentially marking Messi's final tournament with Argentina.

Alvarez wants Messi to continue with Argentina for several years

Despite this, Alvarez expressed his strong desire for the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner to continue representing his country in the future.

"It will depend on him but I think if he wants to he can do it comfortably," Alvarez told GOAL in an exclusive interview.

Asked if he and his Argentina team-mates want Messi to keep playing, Alvarez said: "Yes we do too."

Messi achieved the pinnacle of football success by winning every major accolade, including the World Cup, but fans are hungry for even more and would love the ex-Barcelona man to continue for a few more years.
