Despite being close to signing a new deal with Real Madrid, Vinicius Junior has confirmed he will return to Flamengo before ending his career.

In 2017, the Spanish giants signed Vinicius from Flamengo of Brazil, the club where he spent his formative years.

Since joining Madrid, the Brazilian has been a standout, winning two La Liga titles as well as the Cup Del Rey and the Champions League.

Vinicius has already admitted that he made a vow to keep going back to South America before retiring.

Vinicius on returning to Flamengo

Vinicius Jr. has made it clear that he promised his dad that he would return to Flamengo in Brazil before he retires from football.

Vinicius told France Football, as reported by the Mirror, "I think I could stay here my whole career, but the club of my life is Flamengo. I promised my father I would go back one day. I have to keep this promise.

"I love life here in general, and it's going well for my family too. When my loved ones walk around, they are recognised and they wish us nothing but happiness. Little by little, I discovered this new life, new emotions, a fervour.

"Madrid is unique. Everyone around the world tells me about this club. And apart from that, I like it. I'm quite a homebody but we do a lot of activities."

The Brazilian has said that he made a promise to his father and he tends to keep that promise before he ends his career.

Meanwhile, Vinicius is about to sign a contract that will keep him at the Bernabeu through at least 2027, with a significant pay increase.
