Uganda Christian University (UCU) continued their impeccable start to the University Football League season by defeating Kampala International University (KIU) 2-0 at the UCU grounds in Mukono.

Uganda Christian University (UCU) continued their impeccable start to the University Football League season by defeating Kampala International University (KIU) 2-0 at the UCU grounds in Mukono.

The first-half goals from Isaac Ofoyirwoth and Allan Opio solidified the Mukono-based team's dominance in Group D, nudging them closer to the quarter-finals.

Post-match, UCU coach Collines Ahumuza emphasized the importance of their early momentum.

"We had meticulously prepared for today's game. Lacking familiarity with KIU's strategies, we opted for an aggressive start, netting two rapid goals," Ahumuza said after the game.

Kampala International University's head coach, Geoffrey Akabwai, attributed the loss to the pitch's condition, particularly after rainfall.

"An early defensive blunder cost us, and as we sought to rebound, the rain became an obstacle. We even alerted the referee about the ball's poor movement on the waterlogged field,” Akabwai said.

"We aim to clinch victories in all our forthcoming matches, we are aware of the challenges, but our determination remains unwavering,” he added.

With this win, UCU elevates to nine points, leaving KIU trailing with three, the two teams are poised for another face-off in their upcoming fixture.
