Ex-Leicester City manager Rodgers could be in for an immediate return to management with Tottenham

Brendan Rodgers’ unemployed days could be shortlived, as reports suggest that Tottenham could choose him to replace Antonio Conte, who left the club by mutual agreement at the end of March.

Tottenham consider Rodgers to replace Conte

Conte left Tottenham after his position became untenable with the club's board and owners following his open and crude criticism of the Spurs’ players, history, and chairman.

Tottenham have struggled to replace managers in the past, and Conte’s parting comments about the club ruining the reputations of coaches with poor squad planning and attitude have only made it worse.

Despite this, Tottenham could still be set to sign a respected manager after Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester exit made him available for Spurs.

Rodgers might have gotten the boot from Leicester following a poor run of games with the Foxes, but the Northern Irish manager is still considered one of the best coaches in the market for the Premier League.

Tottenham could sign long-term target Brendan Rodgers

Before the recent descent into chaos, Rodgers led Leicester to the brink of UEFA Champions League qualification on two separate occasions and was touted as a possible replacement for Conte even before the Italian officially left Tottenham.

He also managed to win the FA Cup and Community Shield with Leicester, winning their first trophies since their famous Premier League title in 2016.

Rodgers has been a favoured option for Tottenham since Jose Mourinho’s exit in 2021 and the ex-Liverpool and Celtics manager even had to publicly deny speculation surrounding a move to Spurs at the time

"I’m very, very happy here [at Leicester]. I have a huge respect here for the players, the board and I really feel that I want to continue my work here," he said in 2021 at the peak of rumours linking him to Tottenham, before adding, "Tottenham is a great club, one of the biggest clubs in Britain but for me I’m just in a really, really happy place in my life."

There will certainly be doubts about whether appointing Rodgers two years later after he was fired with Leicester in the relegation zone is the right thing to do, but if Tottenham are unable to attract bigger names, he might be worth taking the risk.
