The three-time African champions are fighting a lost battle over one of Chelsea’s top youngsters.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles are set to miss out on the services of Chelsea’s youngster Carney Chukwuemeka.

Chukwuemela’s international future is currently a subject of debate as he is eligible to play for three countries.

The 19-year-old is eligible to represent the Three Lions of England, The Boys of Austria and Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

However, the Super Eagles are likely to miss out on his services, with England or Austria likely to be the youngster’s choice.

According to Talk Sport, Austria are making moves to convince Chukwuemeka to play for them ahead of England and Nigeria.

Austria’s coach Ralf Rangnick will reportedly meet the youngster, hoping to convince him to switch international allegiance.

Although Chukwuemeka has no Austrian family, he was born in Austria to Nigerian parents, making him eligible to represent the Boys.

England remain favourites to land Chukwuemeka

However, the Three Lions still hold the ace as Chukwuemeka has already played for England’s youth teams from U-16 to U-20 level.

The 19-year-old has not played for the national team, though, and it does not look like it will happen soon.

Chukwuemeka has played just 11 times in the Premier League this season, clocking 224 minutes in total.

He joined the Blues as a highly-rated youngster from Aston Villa for €18.00m, but he has struggled to command a first-team shirt.

Nonetheless, his talent is clear to see, and he will hope to get more game time as the season enters its final stage.

Chukwuemeka’s contract at Chelsea runs until 2028.
