The tactician feels successive regimes at K’Ogalo have lacked a long-term vision, leading to the embarrassment of playing home ties in neighbouring country
Former Gor Mahia assistant coach Frank Ouna has blasted successive leadership of the club for ‘grossly mismanaging’ it to the point where they find themselves with no venue to host their home matches in the CAF Champions League.
Gor Mahia confirmed on Monday that they will be forced to host their matches in Tanzania given no venue in Kenya meets CAF’s standards with Kasarani and Nyayo stadiums having failed inspection tests in 2021.
However, Ouna is not pinning the blame on the country but rather the club, calling out its hierarchy for what he terms ‘myopic leadership’ that lacks a vision that would have seen K’Ogalo have their own stadium by now, 55 years since their inception.
‘News in, Gor Mahia will stage their CAF matches in TZ. What a shame for Kenya and Gor Mahia in this 21st century. Gor should be having their own stadium. Myopic leadership. Grossly mismanaged for ages. Trophies are not a legacy,” Ouna wrote on Twitter.

The two Kenyan clubs are exploring alternative venues following reports that Kasarani Stadium might not be allowed to host their continental fixtures.
“Successive leadership have lacked vision, ideas and have been deliberately subverted the cause of this potential big team. For now, no stadium, constant FIFA bans, no team bus, even training equipment are mediocre. Small team mentality.”
The Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam is the only venue in the region approved to host CAF matches and played host to Simba and Yanga’s ties last season as the former reached the CAF Champions League quarter-final while the latter made it to the Confederation Cup final.
Both Gor and Kakamega Homeboyz might, therefore, be forced to play their matches at the venue while the Azam Stadium has also been mooted as a possibility.
The Champions League preliminary round matches will take place between August 18 and 20 while the Confederation Cup will be held from August 25-27.
If they make it to the second preliminary round, the Champions League matches will take place between September 15 and 17 while the group stages will be held from November 24-26.
Kenyan sides have had it rough in the competitions down the years and most of them do not go past the second preliminary rounds.
However, unlike before, Gor Mahia will have to up their game this time around since CAF have scrapped the provision that would see teams who are eliminated at the preliminary round drop to the Confederation Cup.
