Matthaus has weighed in on Bayern's attacking dilemma after Musiala blow

German football legend Lothar Matthaus has offered his insights into Bayern Munich's evolving transfer strategy following the devastating ankle injury to young star Jamal Musiala.

With Musiala now sidelined for several months and other attacking options having departed or linked with moves away, Bayern faces increased pressure to reinforce their forward line before the new season.

Jamal Musiala fractured his fibula during a tussle with Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma in the Club World Cup quarter-final last weekend.

Bayern Munich players Joshua Kimmich (6), Harry Kane (9), and Kingsley Coman (11) react after their teammate Jamal Musiala (42) was injured in the first half of the FIFA Club World Cup match

This brutal injury is expected to keep the attacking midfielder out for around five months, a significant blow to Bayern's plans.

The injury compounds existing challenges, as Leroy Sane has already joined Turkish giants Galatasaray, and Kingsley Coman has been linked with a move away from the Allianz Arena.

Furthermore, club legend Thomas Muller has played his final game for Die Roten, with a move to Major League Soccer now widely anticipated.

One name heavily linked with Bayern in recent weeks is Stuttgart superstar Nick Woltemade. Bayern sporting director Max Eberl has admitted the club's interest in the 23-year-old, but his hefty price tag, reportedly in the range of €60 million to €100 million, could complicate negotiations.

Nick Woltemade recorded five goals and an assist in five Bundesliga for Stuttgart last season.

What Matthias said

In his column for Sky Sport, Matthaus reflected on the profound impact of Musiala's injury and how it reshapes Bayern's immediate priorities.

He said, "Musiala's injury has brought Nick Woltemade's name into play more than ever. Bayern Munich had already expressed interest in the Stuttgart player before Musiala's injury.

“This hasn't made the transfer any easier or cheaper, as someone is now truly needed in that position. The money is there for Woltemade. Whether he ultimately costs €60 million, €80 million, or €100 million is a matter between FC Bayern and VfB Stuttgart.

"A player like Christopher Nkunku could also play on the wing and in the center."

Nkunku is widely regarded as a flop at Chelsea. Since he arrived at the London club, the Frenchman has only managed six goals in 38 appearances in Premier League in two seasons.
