Sevilla needed a late equaliser and an even later penalty save by Odysseas Vlachodimos to clinch a point against Girona.

Akor Adams was kept quiet as Sevilla and Girona played out a 1-1 draw in a tightly contested clash at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán, with Thomas Lemar’s early strike giving the visitors the lead and Enrique Salas rescuing a point for the hosts deep in stoppage time.

The draw was of little benefit to both teams, who are 12th and 13th on the LALIGA table. Akor Adams has now struggled in two consecutive matches, after scoring thrice in his first two games since returning from AFCON. Ejuke, on the other hand, has struggled to nail a starting role for himself, albeit having made a good account of himself when he came on at halftime against Girona.

Key Match Details

Girona made an explosive start to the match, taking the lead in just the 2nd minute. Thomas Lemar received the ball at the edge of the area before releasing a powerful shot with his weak foot, which flew beyond Sevilla’s goalkeeper.

Sevilla attempted to respond, gaining more possession and probing through their flanks, but Girona’s defensive shape and disciplined marking kept clear chances scarce for much of the first half.

The visitors restricted Sevilla’s opportunities, forcing the hosts into speculative efforts from distance. They also marshalled a brilliant offside trap, which caught Adams twice.

As the second half unfolded, Sevilla continued to push for an equaliser but struggled to create clear goal-scoring opportunities. Girona remained compact and dangerous on the break, with several close efforts kept at bay by Odysseas Vlachodimos.

The pivotal moment came in stoppage time. Despite Girona’s compact defensive shape, Kike Salas found space outside the box and unleashed a powerful drive that beat the keeper and rippled the net.

Girona had a late chance to snatch it back late when they were awarded a penalty, but Cristhian Stuani’s spot-kick was superbly saved, ensuring the points were shared.
