Zech Obiero featured in Leyton Orient's clash against Port Vale and is now set to link up with the Kenya U-20 squad for a tournament in Malawi.

Budding Kenyan midfielder Zech Obiero made a significant impact as a substitute in Leyton Orient's goalless draw against Port Vale in an intense English Football League (EFL) League One encounter on Tuesday night.

The match, held amidst the electric atmosphere of Brisbane Road, saw both teams fight valiantly but ultimately fail to break the deadlock, each securing a point in their respective campaigns.

Obiero, who recently received his call-up to the Kenya U-20 squad for the upcoming Four-Nation tournament in Malawi, replaced Ollie O'Neill in the 86th minute.

Despite the limited time on the pitch, the 19-year-old midfielder showcased his talent and determination, although he could not clinch a win for Leyton Orient.

His participation in the game marks a growing trend of young talent making their mark in professional leagues, a testament to the rich breeding ground provided by youth academies such as Tottenham Hotspur's, where Obiero honed his skills before joining Leyton Orient at the tender age of 14.

The match itself was a tale of missed opportunities and solid defensive play.

Leyton Orient had a golden chance to take the lead when substitute Ruel Sotiriou's second-half effort was brilliantly saved by Port Vale's goalkeeper Connor Ripley, who tipped the ball onto the crossbar.

On the defensive front, Orient managed to keep a clean sheet, showing a disciplined performance that never really saw them in danger of conceding.

Manager Richie Wellens made several strategic changes to the starting lineup, aiming to inject fresh energy and ideas into the team.

These adjustments followed a less than stellar performance at Wigan Athletic the previous Saturday, highlighting the squad's depth and Wellens' tactical flexibility.

On the other side, Port Vale's struggle for form continued, stretching their winless streak to 13 matches.

An early scare, when a back header by centre-back Jesse Debrah nearly resulted in an own goal, epitomized the team's current challenges.

However, Ripley's quick reaction prevented the mishap, keeping Vale's hopes alive throughout the match.

The draw leaves both teams reflecting on what might have been, with Orient particularly rueful about their third consecutive match without finding the back of the net.

For Port Vale, the battle against relegation intensifies, while Leyton Orient looks to regain their scoring touch.
