The Harambee Stars midfielder opens up on difficult experience in Philadelphia Union and life in AalBorg
Harambee Stars midfielder Richard Odada has opened up on his difficult spell in Philadelphia Union and how life has been in Denmark since deciding to move to high-flying second division outfit AalBorg in August last year.
Odada, who once went on trial at Inter Milan, Juventus and Parma before moving to Serbia’s Red Star Belgrade in 2019, joined Philadelphia in 2022 but struggled to make the first team, often featuring for the side’s junior side in the MLS Next Pro.
His desire for more gametime prompted him into pushing a move to Danish side Aalborg on loan, where he has become a star, scoring four goals and registering three assists as they seek promotion back to the topflight of Danish football.

Odada, who once trialed at Inter Milan and Juventus, believes he can return to that level soon considering he has been in stellar form for Danish outfit AaB Fodbold.
“Everyone wants to play and at the end of the day, you have to respect the coach’s decision. Your job is just to train hard and try and make an impression,” Odada told Pulse Sports when speaking about his Philadelphia experience
“It was not a good experience because you wake up, train hard and at the end of the day, you do not make a difference.
“Growing up as a player, the dream was to play regularly. Playing in the Next Pro was like featuring in friendly matches because I felt I was good enough to play higher.
“Sometimes they would bench me but never play me and it never make sense, which is why I decided to look for another option that would build me as a player because I do not want to make regrets and make excuses, which is why I went to AaB on loan as they were offering me regular senior football.”

Odada trialed at Inter Milan in 2018 and also had trials at Juventus and Parma.
Odada has revealed AaB as a good experience where competition for places has spurred him on to get to different levels.
“AaB has been a good experience, but it has not been easy,” Odada told Pulse Sports.
“It has all been about pushing hard every day because it is a good team with good players and no one is guaranteed to play, so you have to be at your best to start.
“It is a good team. If you look at their history, it is rich, only that they got relegated. We want to win the league. We are not thinking about the topflight for now. It is all about step-by-step.”

The former is dubbed to be a worthy replacement of the later.
When asked whether he would consider staying there on a permanent basis, Odada said: “Whatever will happen will happen. I will work as hard as I can and leave the rest to God.”
