The Croatian midfielder's contract is set to expire at the end of the season with Real Madrid still holding back on discussing a new contract extension with him.

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has made his desire to remain at the club and renew his contract for one more season. However, the decision for a new contract is only in the hands of president Florentino Perez.

Modric have been successful in Madrid’s colour

Modric joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2012 and has been in the club for over 10 years running with his name written in Madrid’s history books. The 37-year-old midfielder has had a successful career at the Bernabéu, having won three La Liga titles, five UEFA Champions League trophies and one Ballon d’ or award.

Modric’s contract at Real Madrid expires at the end of the season. The Croatian midfielder has been approached by Saudi Arabia clubs and he’s expected to reunite with Cristiano Ronaldo at Al Nassr.

Modric wish to stay at Madrid

Luka Modric has made his intention clear that he is willing to stay at Real Madrid and he's expecting a new contract from the Madrid board. However, Modric in a press conference last week spoke about his intention of leaving Real Madrid, he said:

“My wish is known, to stay at Real Madrid. I believe and hope it will happen. The rest are only assumptions and rumours. I repeat for the 100th time, I hope and believe I will stay at Real Madrid.”

Modric wants to remain at Real Madrid for one more year and is hoping he would be given a new contract. The Real Madrid owners have some big decisions to make with Modric, not the only midfielder whose contract expires at the end of the season with the likes of Toni Kroos and Dani Ceballos also out of contract at the end of the season.
