Paris Saint-Germain boss Luis Enrique has so far avoided any repercussions for slapping Chelsea player Joao Pedro during the final of the Club World Cup

Luis Enrique will face no disciplinary action from FIFA after slapping Chelsea striker Joao Pedro during the Club World Cup final in the USA in July.

The Paris Saint-Germain manager will continue on the touchline as he prepares for another Ligue 1 campaign.

Incident in Club World Cup final

The Club World Cup final between Chelsea and PSG ended in controversy after Chelsea’s commanding 3-0 win, a result that was effectively secured before half-time.

At full-time, a heated on-pitch brawl broke out between players and staff from both teams. In the chaos, PSG coach Luis Enrique was caught on camera slapping Chelsea forward Joao Pedro across the face, an act that sent the player to the ground.

Speaking after the game, Enrique claimed his actions were not meant to cause harm, saying, "This was completely avoidable at the end. My goal is always to try to separate the footballers. That was my goal. There's tension. There's pressure."

Despite the confrontation, Enrique remained on the bench for PSG’s next official match, the UEFA Super Cup clash against Tottenham, which ended 2-2 before PSG triumphed 4-3 on penalties.

FIFA’s silence on Enrique’s transgressions

FIFA has remained silent on the matter, with no official statement on whether Enrique’s actions will be reviewed.

The fact that the Spanish manager was allowed to take charge of PSG in the Super Cup final suggests that sanctions are highly unlikely.

The incident has done little to disrupt PSG’s preparations for the new season, as Enrique now looks to build on last year’s treble-winning success.

His focus is firmly on the challenges ahead in Ligue 1 and Europe, despite the lingering controversy over the slap that overshadowed the Club World Cup final.
